Okay, so know you know how to use Eudora, now you need to know how to address messages. Email addresses are word combinations that uniquely identify a person on the Internet. Some email addresses can get very large and complicated but all addresses follow a common format. The format consists of a user ID and a domain name. The user ID is often the login name of an individual. The domain name is the name of a computer or an organization. Here are some examples:

user@company.com
This is the basic format and shows how the two names are connected using an @ sign.
jsmith@Discovery.net
This would be J Smith at Discovery Net.
barneyr@julian.uwo.ca
This would be Barney R. at the University of Western Ontario

As you can see these addresses are quite varied, and they can get worse.

So now that you know how to address an email how do you find out the recipient's email address. This is always a tough chore. There are several ways that organizations can publish email directories, but there is no standardized way. There are "whois" servers and "white pages" listings, but organizations generally do not setup these services. You're much better off to call up cousin Fred and ask him what his email address is.
